The Deepwater Bay Bed & Breakfast overlooks some of the finest outdoor recreation opportunities in the upper
Midwest. Step down the hill from your cozy room, and you will be standing at the shores of Deepwater Bay on Lake Sakakawea, known as one of the nation's premier walleye fishing destinations. A stroll in the opposite direction provides the opportunity to explore hundreds of acres of privately owned coulees and prairie. Teepee rings can be found nearby, and the area is rich with Native American and fur trade culture and history. Hidatsa, Mandan, Arikara, Sioux, and Assiniboine tribes called this area home, and the Assiniboine often wintered in the bottomlands near the ranch or in nearby White Earth Valley. The ranch is located on the Lewis and Clark trail, and the expedition was in this area on their way west and again on their return. Lewis and Clark's Corp of Discovery spent the winter of 1804 nearby at their hastily constructed Fort Mandan, downstream from Deepwater Creek near the Knife River Indian Villages.
The Ranch House

If you prefer, stay on the farm and enjoy the day-to-day farming and ranching lifestyle.
Ranching consists of a cow/calf operation raising F1 black baldy calves from a
Polled Hereford cow herd, while all types of small grains are raised using
no-till methods in the farming operation. Nearby outdoor recreation opportunities include exploring, wildlife observation, outdoor photography, bird watching, golf, fishing, hunting, farm and ranch life, or simple relaxation.
Fifteen minutes away is the Paul Broste Rock Museum in Parshall, which houses the world's largest
private collection of cut and uncut stones. We are only an hour away from the giant coal mining draglines and associated power plants, three hours from Medora, the Medora Musical, and the Theodore Roosevelt National Park, and three hours from the International Peace Gardens. Time your visit right, and you may even enjoy one of the Pow-wows
held at nearby White Shield and New Town.
